Lamp

In case you knock some night.
I bought the milk you liked to drink,
Then poured it out I couldn't think.
Your mug is hanging on its hook; I never move it,
I just look.
If someone asks, I say you're awake, I don't know when,
And I'd rather not say.
Some nights I tell myself I'm fine,
Then I hear a car and check the window twice.
Leave the lamp on, keep it low, I'm not waiting,
