Drifting From Faith

Daddy's rifle on the wall, bullets missing since the fall.
Neighbors talking 'bout the noise,
Sheriff came here twice before.
Brothers locked up down in Polk,
Mama praying till she broke.
Roots go deeper than the dirt,
Blood runs thicker than the hurt.
Every scar tells where I'm from,
Can't outrun what I've become.
I'm drifting from faith like smoke from the fire,
Burning the bridge that my granddad built higher.
Steel in my spine, but the weight pulls me lower.
