Front Light On

Says supper's on the stove, says sit down son,
Says every night that porch light never came off.
I walk up the steps, my hand is shaking slow,
She opens the door before I knock, arms wide and low.
Mama left the front light on every evening since I was gone,
Mom's come knocking and I guess home,
But she kept it burning for our sun.
I figured everybody let me go,
I figured the world had closed the door on me.
Turns out one woman never let me go,
