Adrift

The harbor lights have all gone dim,
I'm learning how to breathe without him.
The water moves the way grief moves, in slow,
Impatient afternoon.
I kept a silence like a stone,
A beautiful and heavy thing I called my own.
And somewhere in the undertow, I lost the map of how to go.
There is a current pulling deep,
Through all the promises we couldn't keep.
And I am floating now between the life I had and what it means.
I drift through you, still yours, away.
